Storage facilities are not always considered to be the safest of places, but what many don’t know is how much that has changed over the years. Every facility is different, with the good ones updating just as fast as the technology. Many potential customers have no idea there are three main things providing various levels of security per facility. Here is our list of what to look for when you want safety:
1- An enclosed fence line (or wall) with a gate that opens/ closes using a specific code. The most basic security measure is to keep undesirables out. Giving each unit renter their own individual code ensures no one enters the premises without having a legal and logical reason. The downfall to this being the only security measure is that you can’t control who other renters give their code to.
2- Specific gate access hours. 24 hour access can be handy if you are working a job which requires odd hours, but if you are the typical 9 to 5er chances are you won’t be looking to get into your unit in the dark of the night. Most break-ins occur when visibility is low, take away access during those times and you’ve got the next level of security. If your facility has 24 hour access, is there an employee on-site at all times?
3- An updated security system, complete with a full range of cameras. Just like any other business, storage facilities are not immune to crime being committed. With the use of a camera system overlooking the entire premises. In case something illegal occurs, a video of the incident is incredibly useful evidence. Criminals know this and often steer clear.
If your facility has less than all three of these things, it may be time to look into moving for the safety of your items. Whether you are wanting to change storage facilities or looking for a new one, take note that Bestway Self Storage has all three and has been break-in free for over two years!
